Why breast augmentation?
Breast augmentation is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries in San Antonio and throughout the United States and internationally. There are several reasons why women choose breast implants, including:
- Increase the size of naturally small breasts
- Replace lost volume after pregnancy or weight loss
- Create a cheekier look for slightly sagging breasts.
- Provide balance for different size breasts.
- increase the neckline
Breast augmentation patients often say that improving the appearance of their breasts for any of these reasons makes them feel more confident and feminine. Most women who are in good general health and have realistic expectations about how the surgery will affect their lives are excellent candidates for the procedure.

Which Breast Implants Are Right For You?
Choosing breast implants is an exciting part of breast augmentation, and Dr. Ablavsky will help you with your decision based on the aesthetic goals you outline during your consultation. Together with Dr. Ablavsky you can determine which implants are suitable for you.
Options when choosing breast implants include:
Material:
The silicone outer shell of a breast implant can be filled with saline (sterilized salt water) or pre-filled with cohesive silicone gel. The most popular are silicone implants. Patients say they have more natural looking breasts, but that depends on the patient's choice. Because surgeons fill the implants with saline after inserting the capsule, the incisions are slightly smaller than with silicone implants.
Size:
This is the option that patients often focus on the most. It's helpful to look at the before and after photos to get an idea of what the different sizes of implants look like, but you should make sure you're looking at patients with a body type similar to yours. The same implants can produce very different results in different people. Implant sizes are measured in cubic centimeters (cc) and not in bra cup size. Generally, a 130cc to 150cc breast implant will add one bra size to the size of your breasts.
Profile:
The profile of an implant refers to how far it protrudes from the breast. Low-profile breast implants are wider at the base and protrude less from the breast than high-profile implants, which have a narrower base and protrude more from the breast. Doctor Ablavsky recommends profiling the implant after measuring the width of your breast and considering the proportions of your body.

Which Breast Enlargement Incision is the Best?
dr Ablavsky believes incisions at the base of the breast, where the breast meets the breast, provide the best results for breast augmentation patients. This site, called the inframammary incision, accommodates implants of all sizes and allows you to create the implant pocket more easily. The inconspicuous area effectively conceals scars that fade over time.
What is the best implantation site?
The choice of where breast implants are placed in front of or behind the pectoral muscle depends on the patient's anatomy, the amount of breast tissue present, personal lifestyle, and the type and size of the implant. During your consultation, Dr. Ablavsky your options and can recommend what is best for you.
subglandular location
Placing the implants in front of the muscle, just behind the existing breast tissue, is called subglandular placement. This is an option for women with enough breast tissue to camouflage the implant. Ripples or a visible edge of the implant are concerns for patients who do not have a lot of breast tissue.
submuscular localization
Placing the implant under the pectoralis muscle can produce results that appear more natural than subglandular placement. This position is recommended for women with thin breast skin, little breast tissue, or low body fat.
Location on two levels
With this technique, the upper part of the implant is covered by muscle and breast tissue, while the lower part is covered only by breast tissue.
How is recovery after breast augmentation?
Every patient's recovery experience is unique. Recovery time may vary depending on the size, type and placement of the implant. Swelling and bruising are normal and usually peak in the first week. Women usually take a week off for non-strenuous work.
dr Ablavsky provides detailed postoperative instructions on medications and activities to avoid during recovery.
